The theme of the story of Griselda was all about a husband testing her wife into different challenges and see if she will be patient about it. Then her wife succeeded those tests so the husbands gave her rewards for that.
ReplyDeleteIn Federigo's Falcon, it is all about a boy named Federigo who gave up everything just for his love named Monna while in the story of Griselda, it is a story about a husband who gave many challenges to her wife just to see if she was patient about it. It is also about a wife who is very patient towards her husband.
The status of women in the Renaissance period is they were free to do what they wanted like choosing who they wanted to marry. The values of women in the Renaissance Period still exist today because women today are still temperance, patient and kind that many guys do adore.

ReplyDeleteThe Story of Griselda is about the test of patience and loyalty given by the husband to his wife. And if she succeeded, then, she will have to receive a price from her husband.
While the Federigo's Falcon is all about the unconditional love of Federigo to Monna and Monna to her son. A love that can give everything they have for their love to be happy.
The status of Women from the Renaissance period remains. They are free to do what they desire to do but the only difference is that women before are seen so low unlike now, women are somewhat receiving almost equal acknowledgement that are received by men.
The story of Griselda is about a noble man named Gueltieri who doesn't have any interest in marriage. However his followers are afraid that He will be left with no heir to pass on, so they pushed him to change his mind. Gueltieri meet a poor lady named Griselda and ask her to marry him. Griselda agreed and promise to obey his husband no matter what he wants. The theme of the story is Obedience, wife's obedience to her husband. A wife who listens and accepts her husband's decision no matter what are the consequences. She is willing to sacrifice everything just to please him.
ReplyDeleteIn Federigo's Falcon, Federigo is the one who sacrifices everything even his wealth, just for him to be noticed by Monna because he loves and adore her so much. While The Story of Griselda, Griselda obeyed and sacrifice anything even her daughter. She may not love Gueltieri that much because they met as strangers before but she is willing to do anything just to show her obedience and loyalty to his husband.
Based from the two literary stories, Women's rights are limited. Before women's purpose was to produce a child for her husband, When it comes to marriage, women are only used to strengthen the family's position by giving heir to their husband. They were only allowed to marry a man with the same class in the society, for example a noble man for a noble lady. The values of women before doesn't exist anymore, because today women are given more importance , independence and laws are passed to protect their rights.
The Story of Griselda from Giovanni Boccaccio's novel "Decameron" is about a woman whose husband tests her loyalty by convincing her that he killed their children and by kicking her out of their home. Because she remains loyal to him, he invites her to return home and reunites her with their children. The theme of The Story of Griselda is about the testing of the wife’s loyalty to her husband.
ReplyDeleteThe Story of Griselda and Federigo’s Falcon have similarities. Both of the stories show the theme of sacrificing big for the people that they love. Also, both of the stories ended a happy ever after because of the great sacrifices that has been made.
Based on the two literary stories, women way back in Renaissance period were living with very limited rights. They still don’t have that much power to say no to men. They are only allowed to marry men who are same class with them. Today, some of the countries still do the old tradition but most doesn’t have that kind of values anymore. Women have been given laws and rights to protect them. They are also now independent in making decisions about family matter.
The very theme of the story of Giovanni Boccaccio entitled “The Story of Griselda” is about a husband testing his wife. It’s a test of patience and obedience. He wants to see how long his wife and tolerate and endure his challenges and whims. He wants to see if his wife will stay true to her word that she’ll love, honor and obey him and will never criticize or question anything he says.
ReplyDeleteThere are a few differences between the two stories. In “Federigo’s Falcon”, the main girl character is being showered by love and care of Federigo. He did everything he can just to catch her attention and eventually experienced poverty. Even though his love for Monna Giovanna was unrequited at first, he didn’t bear any negative thought of the girl. But in “The Story of Griselda”, she was put to test by her very own husband. She was not treated the way a wife should be treated by her partner. What Gualtieri did was really cruel. He should have been sorry for even doing that to his spouse. The situation of the two ladies was really opposite. One was showered with attention and material gifts while the other one was put to test. Although in both stories both women were really strong. It highlighted how tough a woman is inside and out. They are facing challenges but never gave up. They both did everything they can for their love ones and deserve every bit their happy ending.
Women during the renaissance period were just backdrop of men. They were just minor characters for them for they were even denied of participation to events like the politics. They were considered to be weak and should only play or perform their roles as housewives and nothing more. Their education were also limited and being unmarried was considered illegal. They seldom marry for love and their main purpose according to the society was to produce an heir. There are some values retained in the modern time. As of today in some parts of the world there are some who can’t marry for love and was forced into an arranged marriage. But still women of today can join politics and are not manipulated by men. They can proudly say what they want and are not treated as mere possessions. They can do work, form organizations that will continue to protect and say things in behalf of all the women. They can join events and do things that were limited to men before.

ReplyDeleteLoyalty is the main theme of the story, Griselda. Gualtieri, Griselda’s husband, gave her marathon of tasks to prove her faithfulness to their relationship. He made his wife believe that their children will be put to death. Gualtieri also deluded Griselda that the pope granted him to divorce her to find a more deserving wife. Griselda didn’t became uncertain to her husband’s demands and immediately obeyed him. His husband was so grateful to Griselda as he saw patience and loyalty to his wife’s actions.
The story of Griselda can be compared to the story: Federigo’s falcon. These two stories were alike, not only because they were written by the same Renaissance author- Giovanni Boccaccio, but also because their main themes were about love, acceptance, and loyalty.
These two stories also tackles about the power of both genders (male and female) during the Renaissance period. In Griselda’s story, Male shows more power than women (the husband can get all that he asks for). While in Federigo’s falcon, it highlights the power of women, which is their beauty.
Gender inequality was really big during the Renaissance era. In fact, it can be reflected to the literary pieces during that time. Women were treated as properties that was owned by their husbands. They think of them as a servant that will do their chores and satisfy their pleasures. But these stereotypes still doesn’t break. It can still be seen in some traditions today, especially Indian, that the man will be the superior and will be the dictator in the relationship. It is also very common to aristocrats or the people from higher class in the society.
Griselda's theme is wife-testing by her husband. Her story is one of patience. Have patience with everything unresolved in your heart and to try to love the questions themselves as if they were locked rooms. Don’t search for the answers, which could not be given to you now, because you would not be able to live them. And the point is to live everything. Live the questions now. Perhaps then, someday far in the future, you will gradually, without even noticing it, live your way into the answer. Have patience with all things, but chiefly have patience with yourself.
ReplyDeleteDo not lose courage in considering your own imperfections but instantly set about remedying them.
There's no differences between Federigo's Falcon and Story of Griselda. They have the same main point that
they need to sacrifice something for a better outcome. They are the same because they were both in Renaissance Period and have the same author, Giovanni Boccaccio. Furthurmore, they both have same theme such as love, loyalty and patience.
The existence of women was there but it was a marginal existence. Very rarely would a women of less than upper class be seen or heard expressing herself. It was unheard of. When women did express themselves, what they would express was spotted by male influence. Nowadays, there's a apparent gender equality this days. In fact women can do what men can.
One of the themes of the story Griselda is loyalty, which was manifested in the part in which the wife still did the challenges her husband proposed, despite the difficulty. One may say that what the woman did was generally degrading, but one may also say that it is kind of remarkable considering the social status of women at that time.
ReplyDeleteThe story of Federigo's Falcon and Griselda is same in a way that both stories contain sacrifices for the person they love. And those sacrifices, however pointless they seemed at first, bore great results for the people involved.
One could say that the social status of women those days was very low, with people only considering women as lowly "scum" and the weak ones, but in reality, they could also do what others do. We could say that there is an improvement in the status of women these days because of feminist action and new mindsets developed.
The theme of the story is about having an unconditional love. Meaning you are willing to do anything for your loved one. Also, it is about patience.
ReplyDeleteIn the story "The story of Griselda" and the story "Federigo's Falcon", both story showed love and sacrifice. Both of these stories showed that one can sacrifice anything for his/her loved ones. Also, in this stories, the characters are tested. Meaning, they face a difficult challenge in which they overcame. But the difference is, for me, The story of Griselda is more okay than Federigo's Falcon. Because the Story of Griselda had a happy ending. I mean, no one died on Griselda's childer. On the other hand, Monna's only child died. But both story are great.
Based on this literary pieces, I can say that the women of the Renaissance Period experience great trials in which they overcome and become a more better person. Also, they are valued by their husbands and families. Also, the women of the Renaissance Period really loves their family. And they are willing to sacrifice anything for them. Well, I guess some women still have these values. My mother have these values. She showed me how great her love is for me from the little things that she does to those big things that she had sacrifice just for me to be happy. :D
Let’s start with the question “Are obedience and loyalty enough to keep your marriage?”
ReplyDeleteSo we all know that marriage is very important. Marriage happens between two people who accept each other and willing to love, accept and honor them for better or for worse. The story of Griselda from Giovanni Boccaccio’s Decameron is all about a man named “Gualtieri” who spent so much time in hawking and hunting and has no plans on getting married. Until one day, his family and friends were afraid that old age would overtake him. So he courted a simple woman named “Griselda” who is very attractive and is better known for her virtue. The theme of the story is all about a wife testing by her husband. A lot of challenges were given to the wife wherein their two children were to be put to death but she doesn’t know the truth behind this. Gualtieri took their children to a secret place wherein both of them were well cared of. Aside from this, Gualtieri also test her loyalty and obedience by saying to her that he was to take a new bride. But despite of this, the wife was able to be obedient and patient. She was willing to accept his husband’s decision and will do everything just to please him. Throughout the challenges that Gualtieri gave to his wife, he realized that he was very lucky to have this kind of wife. Gualtieri revealed the truth to his wife and they lived a long and happy life with their children.
In the story “Federigo’s Falcon” it is all about a man “Federigo”, who was willing to sacrifice everything just for the sake of his love to a woman named “Monna Giovanna”. In the first place, he was very rich to the point that he spent his money without restraint. But because of spending his money, he suffered from poverty and the only thing that was left to him was his little farm and the falcon that was known to be the best in the world. Lot of things happened to Monna, she had his family but his husband died. And she became his heir. They had a son who liked the falcon so much that when he got sick, the cure for this was the falcon. So Monna did everything but because of Federigo’s love for her, he offered this falcon as their breakfast. Because of genuine love of Federigo to Monna, he got what he truly deserved. In the end, they got married and became happy with their life.
The story of Federigo’s Falcon and the story of Griselda have similarities. Both of these stories showed the importance of Love and what love can do between two people. The characters in this story showed that they really loved the person so much that they are willing to do anything and sacrifice everything just to show how they truly love the person.
Based from these literary stories, women during the Renaissance Period were just a backdrop of men. So, these showed “Gender Inequality”. During those times, women have no rights to make their own choice. In Marriage, women were expected to perform as housewives. Aside from this, their purpose was to produce an heir for her husband. Today, there was a part wherein some of the values in Renaissance period remain but it doesn’t mean that the women today were treated the way before. They were given a chance to decide for themselves and they can already prove what they can do aside from some household chores. They can also do some things that a man can do. Today, women have the right to do anything she wanted to do.
"The story of Griselda" has a theme of patience. It shows that any person in a relationship who has enough patience towards the other, is sure enough to be the better half. Knowing that having patience is the key to have an undivided, unrequited, unending, and never ending love. Just letting time do its thing, is the best thing you can do when you're lost. Take a break, and let everything fall in its proper place.
ReplyDeleteGriselda shows a little side of Federigo's Falcon, in the sense of giving everything you have just for the one you love. Griselda gave her all in remaining faithful to Gualtieri. As Federigo, gave his most precious falcon in order to satiate Monna's whim for a breakfast. All. Because. Of. Love.
If anything, during the Renaissance women where adored, loved, worshiped, cared for. Showing that men really loved women. It also shows that women do not have the ability to live on their own. Thus, having contradicting ideas about women. One side shows that they are worshiped. Another, shows that their incapable. Nonetheless, the women during the times are loved and cared for. In our generation, only a handful of men shows the love and care that the men during the Renaissance showed toward women. But, also women became more and more and more independent. This maybe due to the equality that everyone much appreciates, more or less, it's technology's fault. But, being a man or a woman doesn't change the fact the we all need to have patience and love for one another, only then we can achieve "equality" that we all want.

One of the Story of Griselda's theme is loyalty which can be seen in the parts where her husband is giving her hard challenges, but then, she's still doing it to prove her faithfulness to him.
ReplyDeleteAs we can see, Federigo's Falcon and The Story of Griselda is somehow the same. Both Federigo, Monna, and Griselda will do anything just to make their loved ones happy despite how easy or hard it is.
Based on the two literary devices, it is obvious that they are trying to illustrate how women are being treated. That they should always obey their husbands, care for them, and serve them. But nowadays, those kind of treatment doesn't exist anymore. There are laws that can protect them already so that they can practice their rights.
1. Loyalty is something that a person must have. Loyalty in friends, loyalty in family, loyalty in everything that you think is right. Griselda is a loyal and faithful wife. She knew that in the first place they had a condition that she will not disagree on Gualtieri's decision. Which she also agreed, so with this statement she always agree on the decision of Gualtieri even killing her daughter and also her son. With this test or challenges that she faced, she still accepted Gualtieri's decision and that makes her a precious loyal wife.
ReplyDelete2. This two story is very mush the same a two person that is willing to sacrifice and accept the decision of other just for their love ones. Griselda being loyal to Gualtieri and Federigo being loyal to Monna. We cannot say that everything that they did were wrong because they did it whole-heartedly and that makes their decision very strong.
3. Based on my observation on the two literary stories. Women back in renaissance period has a very low priority men overcome women because they thought that women can't do anything or they are just accessory for men. But now women place a very big part in the world women prove that they can do anything that a man can do and even better than what a men can do. But, still there is a part in the world where there is a discrimination about women.
Thank youuu :DD kbye
In the Story of Griselda, the theme focuses on faithfulness of a wife to her husband in which Griselda illustrated the kind of wife who listens and accepts her husband's decision. She is willing to do everything to please her husband even if it mean sacrificing that shows faithfulness to her husband. Meanwhile, the story of
ReplyDeleteFederigo's Falcon focuses on the theme of courtly love, a love that is plagued. Federigo never loses his hope upon his love for Monna, even though he knows he will not be given a chance to be loved back by Monna (knowing that Monna has a husband and a child), until Monna realizes and appreciates all the exerted sacrifices and efforts of Federigo for her. She learned on how to love him back . The two stories intersect at a point of sacrifices for their loved ones.
During Renaissance Period, unmarried woman cannot live independently because this was against the social norms, and women in any class are just housewives. If we compare this to our generation, the value of women has changed from then. An unmarried woman (or a single woman) can live independently by theirselves without husband. Now, women cannot just be a housewife, because in our time, they can work on for their own family.
Of the women at his disposal, Gualtieri, the Marquis of Saluzzo, picks Griselda, a simple woman who, while attractive, is better known for her virtue. Gualtieri falls in love with her virtue, and when he asks her father for permission to marry her, she consents, promising to obey him.
ReplyDeleteGualtieri has no reason to doubt Griselda's loyalty but decides to test her after the first daughter turns 2. He tells Griselda that he plans to kill their daughter because she was born a girl. Instead of arguing with him, Griselda relents, agreeing that he knows best. Gualtieri does the same to their second daughter, and again, Griselda bows to his wishes. Instead of killing his daughters, Gualtieri hides them, which Griselda never learns.Griselda doesn't argue when Gualtieri kicks her out without anything but the shift she has on. When others ask her why she isn't fighting for her marriage, she urges them to respect her husband. When Gualtieri learns that Griselda's loyalty never wavered, he invites her to return. When she does, he introduces her to their daughters, who are now adults .
The story "Federigo's Falcon" tells of a talented young man who falls into poverty while trying to woo the woman he loves while Gresilda is about a woman named Gresilda who's loyalty to his husband never wavered and promises to be with him through tough and happy times .
Based on the two literary pieces given , we can imply that the women during Renaissance Period have limited rights . Men are highly favored and they should ober their husband willingly . Today , not all women have the right to do anything she wanted to do because in some culture , they think of women as fragile and weak .
MARC MENDOZA :)
In my own opinion, the theme of the story is about being faithful. Being faithful no matter what problem may surface between a relationship – you will always find a way to overcome it - and faithful in the sense that you trust your partner that his/her judgment is the right thing to believe. In ‘The Story of Griselda’ Griselda followed her husband’s orders, she has strong faith on her husband’s decisions that she gave up everything that is important to her. She did what her husband ordered her even if by following that order she will hurt herself in the process.
ReplyDeleteThe Story of Griselda: Griselda is willing to sacrifice everything as long as it pleases her husband. She’s willing to let go of everything just to fulfill her promise to her husband that she will do anything that would please him.
Federigo’s Falcon: Federigo made such great efforts just to get the attention of Monna that it cost him his wealth. He became poor but he didn’t blame Monna for that. Federigo now lives with his falcon – his only companion. One day, Monna visited Federigo to ask for Federigo’s falcon but before Monna can even ask for the bird, Federigo already gave the falcon to her unknowingly. Federigo gave up his long time companion just for Monna.
The Story of Griselda and Federigo’s Falcon both have love in it. Both stories showed how far someone can repress his or her feelings just to make another person happy or satisfied. They sacrificed everything that is precious to them. The main of character of both stories were tested by time, they suffered first but in the end they got their happy endings.
Women of the Renaissance Period are often described as housewives; they carry the responsibility of a wife and a mother. They are deprived of political power. Women are shown as figures of love. They have the image of someone who is willing to do anything for their loved ones. They love with all their heart. The values of women during the Renaissance Period still exist and are instilled in the minds of young women today. In my own opinion, they are the embodiment of a happy home, warm hugs and calm nights. Women before are those who take good care of the house and their family, but now women are already part of the society and they are taking a stand for gender equality. They are given freedom to do what they want to do. Only some women are housewives now, many women now work alongside their husbands to help aide the family’s expenses.
Love is a very powerful thing, and in the process of loving someone very deeply, you do things you didn't know you could actually do. Oh, the things we do for the ones we love.
ReplyDeleteAfter reading "The Story of Griselda", I came up with the idea that loving someone with every bit of you can make you do everything for them. The theme of this story is all about the loyalty Griselda has for his husband, how patient and obedient she could be just for him, and how long she could take every hardship, pain, and challenge just to stay with him. Even though she knew that the things Gualtieri wanted her to do could be very painful, she still did it without hesitance even if it meant Gualtieri killing their own children. We could see Griselda's sacrifices and braveness by doing all those challenges that her husband gave her. On the other hand, Gualtierie had this attitude where in he never had contentment with what his wife could offer, he tested her loyalty and patience by doing those cruel things just to satisfy himself not minding what Griselda would feel.
Compared to "The Story of Griselda", Federigo treasured his only love Monna, gave everything just for her even if it would cost him all of his fortunes. All the love she deserved was given to her by Federigo, but Monna, never threw Federigo even a glance. He lost everything by giving her everything that he had and was only left with his one greatest possession, the falcon which he sacrificed also just for Monna. Unlike the treatment of Gualtieri to Griselda, she never felt loved and treasured and that was really a cruel thing to be felt. Nevertheless, both women had their own happy ending and made their own lifetime with the ones they truly love.
In the period of Renaissance, sexism takes place. Women are not equally treated and men are dominant among women. In education, enough knowledge is not given to women and their rights are limited. When it comes to marriage, women of any class are the ones to do the house chores and will only be housewives. Women are not treasured, and considered weak. As for now, women have rights to act freely. We can see women doing the things that men do, we see them in politics, they excel in every aspect and they have the opportunity to prove themselves.
"When it comes to relationships, remaining faithful is never an option but a priority. Loyalty is everything". The main theme about the story of Griselda is loyalty. The kind of loyalty wherein you will risk everything for the man, person and family you devoted your life to. In the story, Griselda took the challenges of his husband Gualteri (without noticing it) and won over it, even if it took something very precious to her, she took the risk and keep trusting his husbands judgements.
ReplyDeleteThe story of Federigo's Falcon and Griselda has some comparison in some way but both of the stories has the theme love. But I think that Griselda's love is greater than Federigo's, because family is something greater than mere food. I for sure will pick my family first before impressing someone who didn't love me back.
In the time of the Renaissance, women were treated like pets and something to get fun off. They just let themselves be slaves and not fight for their right. I thought of this because in both of the stories, the women were ordered to be married to a man. Also i think that the women nowadays can fight for their right and that they cannot be slaved around anymore by men. We should treat everybody equally.

After reading the story of Griselda, I think that the main theme of the story is Loyalty. Griselda was able to overcome her husband’s tests because she was loyal enough to her husband. She proved to her husband that she will be patient and obedient no matter what he chooses to do. Another one is faithfulness. Griselda wouldn’t be able to overcome the tests of her husband if she wasn’t faithful to him, she proved this because after all of the test that her husband gave her she was willing to just stand along with what her husband decides to do because she has faith in him.
ReplyDeleteThe two stories of Giovanni Boccaccio, The Story of Griselda and Federigo’s Falcon is actually mostly identical to each other. Both of the stories have themes that are related to love, being loyal, being faithful and making sacrifices. Although they differ in the part where in The Story of Griselda, Griselda, was able to sacrifice because of the tests of her husband while in Federigo’s Falcon, Federigo sacrificed his falcon because of his undying and unconditional love for Monna. Although in the end, both of the stories have similar happy ending. Griselda was able to overcome her husband’s test and lived happily with her husband and child, and Federigo was able to marry his love of his life, Monna.
I presume that the status of women during the renaissance period somehow still remained until now, only that compared to that period back then women are treated so fragile, so low and so weak. Because of this, their acts are limited. But now, women are able to act on their own and do what they want in their own will, and women are now also able to do what men can do.
-Rochelle Parallag
"The Story of Griselda" is a story which shows different challenges and problems that one could have in a relationship. Gualtieri, a strong, powerful man in the story met our protagonist Griselda. Griselda was just a poor woman but then Gualtieri asked her to marry him and she said yes. She said that she'll obey her husband and follow his every word to prove herself to him. Loving by showing her obedience is her key to pass all the tests that he set. Giving her attention, care, love and passion to her husband and sacrificing everything just to please him. He loved him selflessly and passionately which we rarely see nowadays.
ReplyDelete"Federigo's Falcon" is like the counterpart or "The Story of Griselda". In this story, a noble man loves a fine woman and gives her everything he ever had. Federigo gave all his fortune to her one and only love, Monna. Monna didn't love her back but he didn't lose his love for her even though she can't love him back. Relating it to the other story, Griselda is like Federigo. Griselda gave everything to her man. She sacrificed and followed all his words and decisions. She didn’t bother to utter a single word because she may love him so much that it doesn’t matter if his right or wrong.
Women during those times are valued and treated like a precious gem or a magnificent stone that anyone could ever have. I think those values are still present in our time. Though sometimes men are treating women like something that has the value of a pebble. But hey, chivalry is not yet dead. Many men still value, care and love their woman passionately and selflessly.
ReplyDeleteThe Story of Griselda from one of the many stories collected, The Decameron by Giovanni Boccaccio speaks about Griselda, a poor woman who was then married to the Marquess Guertieli. Guertieli tested Griselda's patience and loyalty in three circumstances, two of which having their children killed (in reality he just sent them somewhere else to be educated and cared for) and another, breaking Griselda's pure heart by marrying another woman.
We can observe in the story Love's power in people. For love never ceases and is like a virus that runs deep through our system, we can control other people if they love us ' too much ', just like what happened to Griselda. She was able to let her children 'be killed' for it was her husband's will and she accepted that Guertieli had to marry another woman, leaving her neglected and even sent her back home.
Another obvious thing is patience, Griselda never held grudge against Guertieli. Apart from, she was so much in love with him, Griselda remained and retained her values taught to her even when she left home and lived in the palace. She remained lowly, humble, obedient and loyal to Guertieli.
Comparing the story of Griselda from Federigo's falcon, they, of course had similarities. One, Love's changing power over people. Griselda and Federigo gave up everything, their riches, pride, dignity for their loved ones, for they were deeply and utterly in love. Two, Guertieli and Monna Giovanna, finally seeing Griselda's and Federigo's worth and sacrifices, gave them what they deserve, happiness.
Lastly, based from these stories, women in Renaissance period had almost no legal power. This is the time where men are still superior over women. Upperclass women can speak out their mind but their thoughts and ideas were still shaped by men. Lowerclass women had lesser rights than the upperclass women, having to be just housewives. They are to be prim and proper and they are controlled by their parents until they are married.
These customs in the Renaissance do not actually apply nowadays. Women's standing in the society changed and improved for the past years, giving both gender equal rights and capabilities and probably surpassing them at times. Though, we are taught that wives must succumb to their husbands, it still doesn't mean that the wife is under her husband.

As for me, after reading the Story of Griselda I opted with the decision that, maybe just maybe, Loyalty and Patience is the theme of the story. The story shows how deep Griselda's Loyalty for her husband that she withstand all his whims and tests for her. Those tests really tested her patience and her whole being resulting to the satisfaction of Gualtieri that he have chosen a fine wife that he will spend his life with. Griselda has come to terms to all of his commands, not much questions asked and complains. She blindly trusted her husband. We can see that she was truly loyal to her husband and did not dare to quarrel with him, even risking the life of their own children. But in the end she passed and they lived happily ever after.
ReplyDeleteAside from being both written by the same Author and being a part of " The Decameron " you can see a few differences, yes just few. The story of Federigo's Falcon is about his blind love for Monna. He gave all of him, mostly his riches but the lady never batted an eye. Even though he became poor he never blamed Monna for it and still saw it as a postive thing. Mostly it is all about courtly love and chivalry. The story of Grizelda,is about unending loyalty and a whole lot of patience. She has withstand all of the challenges that her husband has bestowed upon her. Another one is about the main characters, who were they and how their lives turned 360 degrees forth , Federigo was rich but he became poor and was rich again. He was unloved and ignored by the woman who he was crazy about. At the end they still ended up together. And then Griselda was poor and after marrying a rich man she became a rich and honorable lady, and she became poor ( not literally) but after sacrificing almost everything and not complaining ( her children meant so much to her) she was loved in the end.
Based from the two literary pieces, we can conclude that during the Renaissance period they saw women as weaklings, housewives, and unable. They were limited to the things they could actually do. Stuck only at their homes to take care of the children and be a housewife. They were not allowed to work at that time. As of today, everything has changed. Women can do almost everything as what Men can do. They can take on jobs and tasks that also Men can do. They can work for their families with or without husbands. As of now, we can safely say that they are slowly approaching equality.

ReplyDeleteThe theme of “The Story of Griselda” is mainly the obedience and trust of Griselda to his husband Gualteri. She accepted every decision of Gualteri even though it lets her sacrifice herself just to satisfy his husband’s willingness.
“The Story of Griselda” and “Federigo’s Falcon” are both works of Giovanni Boccaccio from his novel Decameron. “The Story of Griselda” is about testing the respect and loyalty of the wife to his husband’s decision. It shows the importance of having a family that values the relationship of one another. The “Federigo’s Falcon” shows sacrifice of the man “Federigo” to the one he love “Monna Giovanna” by having an unexpected generosity to her. Monna also showed that kind of character for his son that got ill. Unfortunately, Monna didn’t got the falcon because of the hospitality of Federigo by cooking the Falcon to her without knowing that she is already eating the falcon. But at the end, Monna loved Federigo back and married him. Both stories showed the importance of having a person that they love. For me, it is a challenge that would show the strength of both characters in different story that still results into a happy ending.
The status of women in the Renaissance period depends of what is their class or state in the society. The rich women have a limited freedom, middle class women are considered as workers inside shops, and the low class women commonly works in fields or cities as servants. In the two literary stories, both women Monna and Griselda showed their freedom to decide and to choose. However, their husband has still the power to decide what he thinks that is right for them. The freedom of women before is still limited. I think that the values of women in the Renaissance period didn’t exist today because both men and women are equal in the eyes of the society. Everyone of us shows the freedom to decide and to choose what we want independently.
The theme that caught my attention while reading the story is the treatment among women and children. A man apparently has enough authority to order his wife around, a wife following his every order without second thought, and impose death upon one's own children.
ReplyDeleteIn both stories mentioned, i have noticed that being able to marry is very important during their time, the middle ages. It's as if not being able to marry is the worst thing in the world, and will lead you to nothing but a desperate death. (E.g. Friends and subjects of Gualtieri forcing him to marry, the brothers of Monna urging her to remarry)
During the middle ages, women can be classified as second class citizens, where in they do not have any authority, and only possess limited rights. Their sole purpose during the time was to bear a child, take care of the household, tend to their husband's every need without thinking twice, and with no questions asked. Nowadays, subservient women are still present, but only to a certain extent. Treating women as if they were your unpaid servants is condemned by the society, however, some women choose to be this way since this is how they were raised and what they believe is right. Overtime, as the world becomes more aware and more educated in these fields, the inequality against women and men will slowly deplete, but, realistically speaking, will never vanish.
Being loyal, obedient and patient are some of those characteristics which were Griselda had. The story of Griselda's theme is husband testing his wife. Even though Gualtieri didn't stop on testing his wife, she still obeyed him and comply to what he wanted.
ReplyDeleteIn Federigo's Falcon, the gentleman Federigo gave his all to Monna because of love. He did not stop what he can still do until the end, which is the same with The Story of Griselda. She complied to all of his demands without any hesitation. they did not think twice even though there's nothing lest for them. Both stories have happy ending.
Based on the two stories, we can conclude that women back then were not considered worthy as what they are nowadays. They were just used to be somewhat decorations for men's life. They didn't get equal rights compared to those rights men had. As we all know the rights of women in the present were strengthen and has more importance than before.
Basically, the story of griselda focuses on the theme of loyalty. Why? Because to test the loyalty and unconditional love of griselda towards him, he gave such orders that are over the limits yet still she do what Gualtieri wants her to do. Since Griselda love Gualtieri,Griselda will do whatever it takes to make him happy. The test just proves that if the loyalty of the girl towards the boy is strong and cant be broken.
ReplyDeleteWhat i have observed is that women are treated in each story was good. In Federigo's Falcon, the woman in the story was gentle and good and since federigo love her so much, he will do whatever it takes to catch the heart of the woman. In the story of griselda, the woman here was tested by his husband to see if his wife is good enough for him. These tests were off the hook but still the woman catches the hook just to make Gualtieri happy.
Women in Renaissance was very gentle and respectful. Their moves were as graceful as the wind but they were treated not equally right like the gentlemen. Back then, women are treates like dirtballs. Dirty and useless. Only tough ones survive back then which is basically the men. Women were just not so important unlike the boys back then. Today, it shifted. The women today are treated fair and square. They were treated as precious jems and stones. Fragile but elegant. They were now more important and their gender are more stronger than the Renaissance Period.
The themes that are presented in "The Story of Griselda" are love and loyalty. we can see that even though her husband is being quite unreasonable, she still loves him and is loyal to him.
ReplyDeleteCompared to 'Federigo's Falcon' , 'The Story of Griselda' is focused on the female character being faithful to her huusband. Also, in this story, the two were married from the start because Gualtieri wanted to stop receiving comments from his friends to get a wife. In 'Federigo's Falcon', Federigo sacrifced what he have just to please Monna, because he loves her so much. However, the two stories are similar in a way that the main characters would do anything for the man/woman they love.
Based on the two stories, the women of the Rennaissance period are free to do what they want. I can say that, as a woman, the values of the women from thr Rennaissance may have not vanished, however, it is tainted by the influences and new ideologies as time goes by. Those values exist until today because these values are taught to children in school. It is a bit altered, though, because of, as i said, new ideologies and the development of the world towards the future.
The "Story of Griselda is all about loyalty. Griselda is willing to sacrifice all she have just to satisfy her husband on what he need. Her husband test her loyalty and the compassionate love that she have for him.
ReplyDeleteThe "Story of Griselda" differs from "Federigo's Falcon in a way that it focuses on the loyalty of the main character and they are married from the start. While in "Federigo's Falcon" it is a story of unrequited love of Federigo to Monna.
They also have similiraties in a way that Griselda and Federigo is willing to gave up all that they have just to satisfy the needs of their companion.
From the two stories, I concluded that women in the Renaissance Period is really loyal to their companion in good times and in bad times. They gave their whole loyalty to them. This values can be seen in our society. People nowadays have the same characteristic as the people on the Renaissance Period.
The themes reflected on "The Story of Griselda" are love, obedience, patience and loyalty. Gualtieri test her wife's loyalty to him. The first two test was killing their 2 daughters, but the truth is that he just hides them, which Griselda never knew. Eventhough that Griselda never knew that her husband would just hide or keep them, she just obeys. The last test is that seeing Gualtieri with another woman. We know that Griselda was so hurt that time, seeing your husband with another woman and losing her 2 daughters, but she just obeys and remain loyal to him.
ReplyDeleteWell, they differ but the main concept is just the same. Sacrificing your happiness for the happinness of your love and also remaining loyal or faithful. In the story "Federigo's Falcon", Federigo is willing to sacrifice his wealth for him to be noticed by Monna Giovanna. Even if Federigo got poor, the love for Monna Giovanna still remains. He didn't even blame Monna for his poverty. While in "The Story of Griselda", the tests given to her by Gualtieri pains her so much. She sacrifice her happinness in the presence of Gualtieri, beacause she thinks that Gualtieri is happy with another woman. In spite of all this tests, the love she has for Gualtieri remains.
Based for the two stories, I may inferred that women always obeys what their husbands say. They may be also loving and caring like Monna Giovanna in "Federigo's Falcon". I would say that women in the Renaissance period were loyal, because Griselda didn't have another lover besides Gualtieri. The case of Monna Giovanna is different. She is still loyal to her first husband, if only she wasn't being pushed by her brothers to remarry again. Well, I would say that the values of women during Renaissance Period still exist, but it is not applicable to all women. Some may be loyal, some may be not. The values wouldn't remain as it is because change is inevitable. The values were there but it would change as time passes by.

The theme of the "Story of Griselda" from the famous novel "The Decameron" is first loyalty because Griselda loves his husband, Gualtieri, so she will do whatever her husband just to make sure that he will accept her as his wife. Next is patience because Gualtieri is very patient to Griselda, he's just waiting her to finish the task that he gave to her. Lastly, unconditional love or simply love, every story in the Renaissance Period has a theme of love (But not all of the story) it is same as the theme loyalty because loyalty shows love to others, to your friends, family or your special someone. Griselda loves Gualtieri so she will do whatever he wants just to capture the attention of her husband and will be accept by him. It is because love is everywhere and does exist.
ReplyDeleteWell Federigo's Falcon and The Story of Griselda are part of the novel "The Decameron" so it means that they have the same content and theme. Almost, but they have different stories. Story of Griselda shows loyalty to her family and especially to her husband so she will do everything for her love. While in Federigo's Falcon, Federigo sacrifices all of his things so Monna will feel safe and happy to him. But the two are showing love. They loved each other but not all the time they are happy like today because of the problems of their family when it comes to money or anything else.
Based from the two stories, I think these two will also happen today, tomorrow, next week, next month or in the future. But you must be sure when picking the right woman/man for you so that you and your love will be lived happily ever after. Like a fairy tale, as a princess, you must find the prince or the light in shining armor and do what they want or what they need. Just like in a royal family, your parent and the other family will have an agreement that their son and daughter will be marry for the sake of their kingdom. Like in UK or the country that has a monarchy government. But it depends to use whether to follow your decision or not. The important is you love your partner and respect it to have a better future.
The obvious theme in the story is the power of men over the women of the society. As shown in the story, Gualtieri treats Griselda as the subject of an experiment. And immoral tasks were put at her at her expense. When Gualtieri went to Griselda to lay the conditions of his request, it was as if Griselda was the one who owed him something. But in reality, Griselda wasn't the one who made the request.
ReplyDeleteIn both mentioned stories, loyalty is prevalent. Griselda did everything his husband told her to do, with no questions asked and Federigo, after years continued to love and dedicated his life to Monna even if it cost him all his fortune and even his own survival.
The women were considered as cabin class and were not treated with respect. The times that they are treated properly are when they are noble of name or when a man wants to take advantage of the women. Today, there are still situations like this, in fact there are many cultures or small tribes that still observe this kind of treatment for women. However, as time passes, people get more aware and they realize what is wrong or right, women will be treated better.
1. For the theme, what i recognize the most is sadism and masochism wherein Griselda was the masochists who is gratified with pain by obeying the orders of her sadistic husband. Another theme i recognize is marriage in which regularly, both parties will test each other's love to verify their loyalty. And, this may seem unnecessary for me to include but, i see no love. Because if Gualtieri loved Griselda, he would have trusted her, but he didn't and gave her trials. Another reason is that if Griselda could ever love any one or anything at all, she would never give up her children to someone who does not trust her and only married her to reproduce and get a heir.
ReplyDelete2.) Both women are willing to sacrifice all their might for their loved ones no matter how difficult it may seem.
3.) As for how I understood The Story of Griselda, women back then were thought of nothing more but creatures who may accomplish the duties and obligations of men such as to reproduce their family blood-line. That women are capable of being composed at all times and that men could do whatever they may to women because they are almost incapable of feeling, that women could be toyed with, that men could deceive them and women will never fight back perhaps because of, like that of Laura, women do not have enough rights to do so. However, the story ended well, having Gualtieri finally accepted that Griselda is a loyal lady for her husband no matter how cruel (morbid) and selfish his decisions were for her.
On the other hand, in Federigo's Falcon, Federigo was willing to give everything up just so Monna would return his feelings. In contrast to The Story of Griselda, Monna - on behalf of the women, was thought of to be highly and not easily attained. Although it may also depict that women back then could only be lured using tangible riches and possessions making it look negative from this perspective.
In Federigo's Falcon, Monna was willing to do all she could just to aid his son, up-to-date and until the universe crumbles, mothers will always, always take care of their children, of course this value will still be practiced til the end of times. However, on Griselda's part, her value to sacrifice her children and happiness just to accomplish her role as a wife to a man who does not seem to even love her for real is absolutely an awful value to keep. Women are human beings that are vulnerable to a lot of things, especially when the topic is about their feelings and families. Women are not to be toyed with, so they should not be. Though, we cannot help incompetent fools (some men) from thinking that women will always be inferior to men and so why men may abuse their women as much as they like because some people are still living in the stone ages when no one knows anything at all.

The theme of the story which is "The story of Griselda " is all about trust, sacrifice
ReplyDeleteand loyalty.Griselda sacrifice herself to follow what her husband had told him.Even though the task that is given to her is quite difficult to do.
The difference of "The story of Griselda " and Federigo's Falcon is ,In the story of
griselda,it shows faithfulness and loyalty. Gualtieri, challenge his wife for him to know how much do griselda love him.
While on Federigo's Falcon,it is all about sacrifice and unrequited love. Federigo sacrifice everything for Monna, even though at first monna didn't like him.
But both of the story is written by Giovanni Boccaccio and also the ending of the story is both happy because even though they have some difficult challenges in life, they still live happy together and their love with each other wins.
Based on the stories,I think that thestatus of the women on Renaissance Period is they are a wife and a loving mother to their family even if their is a lot of difficulties in life, their love still remains and that is what a true women should be.
For me,I think that the values that have been shown on the renaissance period still exist today, because many couples stayed for almost 80 years because of their trust, love and being faithful to each other. As they always say,"If you love someone, you will sacrifice everything just to make them
happy".This quote means that the values of Sacrifice is one of the main thing that one person should have if he/she love someone.

The main theme of the story entitled "The Story of Griselda" is all about female obedience wherein the story itself expresses the most significant plot on how women can be treated as manipulating objects in order to overcome and unfold their true nature. Griselda possessed several characteristics of being a woman which include her indigenous pride and her gracious words. Her personality is well divine that Griselda has become the wife of Gualtieri, Lord of the Marquess. When they successfully got married, he requested her to obey all of his command no matter how difficult the circumstances he had given to her. This illustrates a scenario wherein a woman, fully aware that she has accepted herself as his wife, shall agree with him in all of his conditions. In fact, this is a test of wit to prove if she either betrays the man whom she ever loved or accepts him with all of her heart as the ideal man for her to live with;likewise, this has been Gualtieri's goal all along as he wanted to know if she is indeed the female ideal of steadfastness, having to accept him not only through words but also with good judgment as he has always had faith in her. Knowing this, Griselda's wisdom has proven to him in all of his motives: the abduction of their children, rejecting her as his wife, and the wedding of his new bride. Despite all of the troubles that she has faced after a series of trials, she succeeded because she has determined to prove herself as the most wise, patient and virtuous woman in the world. Though he kept planning to melt the heart of Griselda and rejecting her own desires, he still pleads to love her as it was the only way to appreciate his wife. As a result, they both forgive themselves in the end. The main theme also explains that true love can only be obtained if they absolutely accept themselves. Other themes include marriage roles as it explains the relationship between a mother and a father, subservience to paternal forces like one's husband as it illustrates of a man having the power to control his beloved wife, and criticism in which it criticizes the works of a woman against her husband.
ReplyDeleteBoth stories are written works from the same author that are compiled together in a book called “Decameron” wherein it composes of similar stories that have unique taste such as the previous stories mentioned above. Its similarities include moral values such as the acceptance of one's love obtained, the guilt and forgiveness of a person's mistake, and their destiny toward another. However, both stories have different ways in describing true love. Federigo's Falcon expresses love as the greatest treasure a man could ever have and is therefore to obtain unconditional love by sacrificing things. On the other hand, The Story of Griselda expresses love to be a test of wit as it resembles trials of an individual whether they accept or betray themselves and is therefore to have faith between them in order to accept the absolute love of one another.
There is an inequality or imbalance between men and women because men have the power to take over women's desire and fulfillment. The status of the women during the Renaissance Period were thought as properties in which they were owned first by their fathers and then their husbands. In other words, these women were trying to fight for their freedom for equality. In my opinion, since a woman had virtually no role in choosing her husband, i assumed there was already an arranged marriage in which the domain was the man while the woman had no control in her will. The values of women during the Renaissance Period still exists today wherein few countries had a legal system for arranged marriage. This is because it is regarded as their traditions and cultures. Even though it was common until the Renaissance Period ended, it is still present in several countries. Thus, criticism between human gender, men and women, against equality and marriage arrangement have not yet been concluded in other countries.

ReplyDeleteThis literature entitled "The Story of Griselda" written by an Italian poet and Renaissance humanist, Giovanni Boccaccio, was truly an inspiring and motivational story particularly to those who are deeply in love, married, and even to those who are still looking for their future-partner-in-life. The theme of the story is more of trust, loyalty and obedience of a wife to her husband. In the story, the man named Gueltieri, hath given several tests to his lovely wife named Griselda. This is to prove Griselda's oath to him since the day they married. But despite of these, Griselda remained strong and loyal to her husband though she experiences hard times. At the end, Gueltieri finally proved that his love for Griselda is truly worth.
ReplyDeleteThe story of Federigo's Falcon is about Federigo's undying and unconditional love for his lawful bedded and gorgeous wife named Monna. Wherein he hath given and sacrificed everything just to show how much he loves her, which is the most precious gift he can give that surely won't last. This story tells the readers that love owes everything and is precious. A true love will endure when someone will sacrifice something to make it all worthwhile.
Women of Renaissance period have experienced gender inequality. They were being underestimated and discriminated by men. Men say women couldn’t do what they can and so they insist that women must be subjected to men. So women continue to prove their worth. Until the present, women have made a change. Women of today are capable of everything and with that, we are not just women, but we are strong women indeed. :D
